Professional Experience at dhk architects.

The foundation of my professional architectural career at dhk architects in Cape Town.

Upon graduating with my degree at the end of 2016, I was offered full-time employment at dhk architects, located in De Waterkant, Cape Town, South Africa. Prior to this, I was employed at dhk in 2014 as an intern, during my practical work experience year. dhk is one of the largest and well-established architectural practices in the country, established circa 1998. Their portfolio of work that has garnered international recognition spanning projects across multiple countries. dhk believes in a holistic, integrated approach to design, covering a full spectrum of architecture, urban design and interior design.

During my 2 years at dhk I gained invaluable experience working in a motivated team environment; being involved with projects from concept design till construction & detailing stages. This allowed me to apply but also learn a range of skills; making use of 3D software for conceptual ideas and design development drawings, graphic design and compilation for presentation packages, as well as applying my technical abilities for detail drawings and construction documentation. Each of these projects was unique, ranging in scale and complexity, including luxury residential apartments, mixed-use developments, a lifestyle centre as well as the rare opportunity of assisting with the design of a casino. Working and learning from a team not only illustrated how each project involves more than simply designing a building, but it has also demonstrated how creating and managing a construction project is logical, organized, and defined. This experience has provided me with a solid grounding at an early point in my career in the built environment industry.
